Multi-window feature could be headed to Galaxy S3 in Android 4.1.2 update

The Galaxy S3 may have just been updated to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean in Europe, but it seems Samsung may already be focusing on the next major software update. According to reports from SamMobile, the S3 will be updated to Android 4.1.2 before the end of the year, and that new firmware will also include one of the Galaxy Note 2's killer features -- "multi-window" support.

The Note 2's multi-window feature, shown in our quick demo video above, allows true multi-tasking by having two applications open on-screen at any one time -- for example, a browser window up top, and a YouTube video down below. Not all apps are supported yet, but all major Google and Samsung apps work just fine, as do some third-party offerings like Twitter.

SamMobile has a pretty decent track record for revealing Samsung software secrets ahead of time, so there's a good chance they're right about multi-view on the S3. And as the international Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 share much of their hardware, it shouldn't be a huge technical challenge to get multi-view up and running on the S3. Nevertheless, if these reports are true, we're sure S3 owners will be eagerly awaiting that 4.1.2 update.

TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes combination is ...

    ?

TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation is one of the best known for pain relief. As you can probably gather from the name ?Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation? it is all about using electrical stimulation on nerves to ensure that joint and other muscle pains are alleviated. The combination of TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes can be easily used on almost any part of the body and what you get is almost instant pain relief.

    ?

The moment we hear about electrodes we tend to think in terms of manufacturing. It is true that electrodes play a huge role in the manufacturing industry. Think of any form of welding and you will find that electrodes are needed for it. Even electric execution chairs are run on electrodes. Other uses include electrophysiology, cathodic protection, chemical analysis, electroplating and electrolysis and grounding. Even in the medical field electrodes have huge roles to play in defibrillators, EEG, ECT and ECG. Thus, electrodes are extremely important in our life.

    ?

Muscle or joint pain is a common phenomenon. Many people go through these pains. Elderly people are known to suffer from joint pains. One cannot fathom how much it can pain when someone is suffering from arthritis. Then there are the sportspeople. Sportspersons need to drive their body to the maximum, day after day. This is the only way to ensure that they can compete with the others in the field. The result of all this taxation means that the body takes a toll. Muscle pains become common; hamstring injuries become common and groin injuries occur every now and then. While there are medical treatments available for all these pains, the TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes combo works extremely well when someone just wants pain relief.

    ?

The TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes work by passing electrical pulses through the body. The pad is kept in the area of the pain or directly on the area where the pain is. Electrodes are now attached to the pad and the other end of the electrodes is attached to a source of electrical current. The electrical current passes through the electrode to the pad and from the pad to the body. The pulses provide ready and immense relief from all the pain. This combination cannot possibly cure an illness like arthritis but when you are suffering through pain and want immediate relief, you must use them.

    ?

Before you use the TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes combination you may want to know more about it. No one is comfortable using electrical products and you may be one of them. There are many articles and notes on these products and you can easily find them by searching online. While you are going through information on these products also look for some of the sellers of TENS products. So, when you are convinced that it is ok to use these products you can buy from a top seller.

    ?

Go for TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes if you want pain relief. Almost nothing works better.

For easy pain relief for a very affordable cost use the combination of TENS electrodes pads and TENS electrodes.

More than 20 anglers accused of lobster poaching this season

As California's spiny lobster season gets underway, authorities have cited more than 20 anglers for illegal activities, including exceeding the catch limit, taking undersized crustaceans and stealing from others' traps, officials said.

In the latest incident, officials with the state Department of Fish and Game are investigating reports that two fishermen poached lobsters from a state marine conservation area at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Officials plan to question the men, who allegedly set a commercial trap and netted at least three lobsters in Abalone Cove. But because it was not clear whether the boat was in the marine preserve or just outside it, the men will probably be warned rather than cited, said Andrew Hughan, a Fish and Game spokesman.

Abalone Cove is one of 50 Southern California "marine protected areas" covering more than 350 square miles of coastal waters, from Point Conception to the U.S.-Mexico border, that became subject to strict fishing restrictions in January. Lobsters and other shellfish, however, have long been off limits in the area.

Earlier this month Fish and Game officials cited Yanwu Li of Rowland Heights, who was suspected of stealing a lobster from another person's commercial trap off Dana Point Harbor, along with three other violations. The citations, each of which carry penalties of as much as $1,000 and six months in jail, have been referred to the Orange County district attorney, Hughan said.

"Lobster poaching is a huge problem up and down the coast," Hughan said, adding that one hot spot was the Catalina Island area. "We're very vigilant in our efforts to stop this problem."

In particular, he said, officials aggressively pursue those who take undersized lobsters because they take seven years to grow to a legally catchable size ? the body shell, without the tail, must measure at least 31/4 inches.

"If we catch you with an undersized lobster, you will get a ticket," he said.

Katie Howe, a Rancho Palos Verdes parks official, emphasized that starfish, hermit crabs, sea urchins and other sea life in the area's famous tide pools are also strictly off limits.

"A lot of families go there and see people pulling octopus out," she said. "It's traumatizing to kids to see the animals being hurt."

Sarah Sikich of Heal the Bay said her organization's report on the first six months of the new coastal restrictions found "overwhelming" compliance. The coastal protection group, which is based in Santa Monica, sends out about 60 trained volunteers each month to monitor activities in the marine preserves.

"The good news is that it's going well," Sikich said.

Howe asked that Abalone Cove visitors who witness poaching call the Rancho Palos Verdes Nature Preserve ranger hot line at (310) 491-5775. The lobster season runs until March 20.

Do black people support Obama because he's black?

Surviving slavery, segregation and discrimination has forged a special pride in African-Americans. Now some are saying this hard-earned pride has become prejudice in the form of blind loyalty to President Barack Obama.

Are black people supporting Obama mainly because he's black? If race is just one factor in blacks' support of Obama, does that make them racist? Can blacks' support for Obama be compared with white voters who may favor his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, because he's white?

These questions have long animated conservatives who are frustrated by claims that white people who oppose Obama's policies are racist. This week, when a black actress who tweeted an endorsement of Romney was subjected to a stream of abuse from other African-Americans, the politics of racial accusation came full circle once again.

Stacey Dash, who also has Mexican heritage, is best known for the 1995 film "Clueless" and the recent cable-TV drama "Single Ladies." On Twitter, she was called "jigaboo," ''traitor," ''house nigger" and worse after posting, "Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future."

The theme of the insults: A black woman would have to be stupid, subservient or both to choose a white Republican over the first black president.

Russell Simmons, the hip-hop mogul and Obama backer, called Dash's experience "racism." Said Barbara Walters on "The View": "If she were white, this wouldn't have happened."

Twitter users are by no means representative of America, and many black Obama supporters quickly denounced the attacks. But for people like Art Gary, an information technology professional, the reason Dash was attacked is simple: She is a black woman supporting a white candidate over a black one.

"It goes both ways," said Gary, who is white. "There is racial bias amongst whites, and there is racial bias amongst blacks. But as far as the press is concerned, it only goes one way."

Antonio Luckett, a sales representative in Milwaukee who is black, called the attacks on Dash unfair. But when people speak out against a symbol of black progress like Obama, he said, "African-Americans tend to be internally hurt by that."

"We still have a civil rights (era) mentality, but we're not living in a civil rights-based world anymore," he said. "We want to say, 'You're black, you need to stand behind black people.'"

Luckett said one reason he voted for Obama in the 2008 primary against Hillary Clinton was because Obama is black: "Yes, I will admit that."

Is that racism? Not in Luckett's mind. "It's voting for someone who would understand your side of the coin a lot better."

Such logic runs into trouble when applied to a white person voting for Romney because he understands whiteness better. Ron Christie, a black conservative who worked for former President George W. Bush, finds both sides of that coin unacceptable.

"It's not the vision that our leaders in the civil rights movement would have envisioned and be proud of in the era of the first African-American president," Christie said.

Martin Luther King Jr. fought Jim Crow laws, which deprived blacks of political rights after Reconstruction, upheld by Southern Democrats. But black voters switched after Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson pushed through the 1960s civil rights legislation and Republicans successfully pursued the votes of white people who disliked the civil rights agenda.

Since then, Democrats have persistently wooed black voters with programs and platforms that African-Americans favor, and the party has been rewarded every four years.

Clinton got 83 percent of the black vote in 1992 and 84 percent in 1996; the third-party candidate Ross Perot probably sliced away some of Clinton's black support. Al Gore got 90 percent in 2000; John Kerry got 88 percent in 2004. Obama captured 95 percent in 2008, and 2 million more black people voted than in the previous election.

Christie says he, too, shares the sense of pride in Obama smashing what for blacks is the ultimate glass ceiling. He understands that black pride springs from a shared history of being treated as less than human, while the history of pride in whiteness has a racist context.

But he still sees black people voting for Obama out of a "straitjacket solidarity."

Christie sees it in his barbershop, where black men shifted from calling candidate Obama "half-white" and "not one of us" to demanding that Christie stop opposing the first black president.

He sees it in the comments of radio host Tom Joyner, who told his millions of listeners a year ago, "Let's not even deal with facts right now. Let's deal with our blackness and pride ? and loyalty. . I'm not afraid or ashamed to say that as black people, we should do it because he's a black man."

The actor Samuel L. Jackson said much the same thing: "I voted for Barack because he was black," he told Ebony magazine. "Cuz that's why other folks vote for other people ? because they look like them."

In 2011, as black unemployment continued to rise, the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus said that if Clinton was still president, "we probably would be still marching on the White House . (but) nobody wants to do anything that would empower the people who hate the president."

And just last week, the rapper Snoop Dogg posted a list of his voting reasons, written by someone else, on a social media account. No. 1 on his pro-Obama list: He's black. Snoop's top reason to not vote for Romney: He's white.

All of this may help explain why Veronica Scott-Miller, a junior at historically black Hampton University, directed the following tweet at Dash: "You get a lil money and you forget that you're black and a woman. Two things Romney hates."

In an interview, Scott-Miller said the GOP fought Obama's effort to provide funding for historically black colleges like hers. She dislikes Romney's opposition to abortion and thinks Republicans have a "negative stigma about us . they make generalizations in their speeches about our race in general, and they make up terms like welfare queens and stuff."

Told that some saw her tweet as racist, she said that's not what she meant. "I was saying that as a black woman, Romney doesn't have that much that would make us want to vote for him," said Scott-Miller, who is black. "Because Barack Obama lives with three black women in his house, he knows about what they need, he knows about the issues we may be facing, he talks to black women on the regular."

Sherrilyn Ifill, a law professor at the University of Maryland, wrote a column last week exploring why so many black voters are rejecting Romney. She said it has less to do with the candidate than with his party's treatment of Obama, such as John Sununu calling the president "lazy" after the debate, a congressman shouting "You lie!" during the State of the Union address, claims that Obama is not a citizen and more.

In an interview, Ifill said that for black voters, such accusations feel like white people are attacking their own dignity. "In essence," she says, "they are closing ranks around Obama."

She noted that women were justifiably moved by Hillary Rodham Clinton's candidacy and Catholics flocked to the polls to elect President John F. Kennedy. Comparing black pride in Obama to white pride in Romney is a "false symmetry" because of the history of black oppression, she says, and she asked for patience from America at large.

"There should not be this resistance to pride over the first black president," Ifill says. "If we get to the fifth one, I'll be with you."

Turkey forces Syrian passenger plane to land; IMF chief calls on China and Japan to end ther row over East China Sea islands; Chinese writer Mo Yan wins the Nobel Prize in literature; Spain's credit rating falls to one level above junk; Venezuela's Chavez chooses new vice president; and more

Top of the Agenda: Turkey Grounds Syrian Jet

Turkey forced a Syrian passenger plane en route from Moscow to Damascus to land in Ankara on suspicion of carrying military cargo (NYT), warning of increasingly forceful responses if Syrian artillery gunners continued shelling across the border. While the Russian Foreign Ministry demanded explanation and sharply denied the presence of weapons on the plane (Hurriyet), Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said that "materials that infringed international regulations" had been confiscated. The United States recently sent military advisers to Jordan and offered assistance (Bloomberg) to Turkey to prepare for humanitarian and possible military spillover from the war in neighboring Syria.

    Analysis

"The emerging conflict between Turkey and Syria must therefore be seen as a reflection of the international system's failure. The West's reluctance to act on the responsibility to protect in Syria--an allegedly cherished concept--put Turkey in the vanguard of the reaction to the Assad regime. The international community must now face the consequences of its inaction," writes Sinan Ulgen for the Financial Times.

"Turkey, with or without Western support, could probably defeat what remains of the Syrian military. Its own army is well-equipped and the second largest in NATO. Such an effort would establish Ankara's credentials as the new power of the Middle East - leapfrogging the claims of wealthy but ultimately eccentric Gulf states like Qatar and Saudi Arabia - and allow it to reshape to its satisfaction a neighbor whose rebellious Kurds are a source of constant concern to its own security. But it would be a huge gamble, certainly if it did not have the overt backing, at least diplomatic and preferably military, of its NATO allies," writes Richard Spencer for The Telegraph.

"[A]lthough NATO and the United States have expressed solidarity with Turkey, a NATO member, they are urging restraint. Western powers, particularly the United States, do not have the desire or political will to intervene militarily in Syria. Without the full backing of NATO and the US, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan would be reluctant to embark on any large-scale military venture against Syria," writes Fawaz Gerges for CNN.

Glaciers cracking in the presence of carbon dioxide

The well-documented presence of excessive levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in our atmosphere is causing global temperatures to rise and glaciers and ice caps to melt.

New research, published today, 11 October, in IOP Publishing's Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, has shown that CO2 molecules may be having a more direct impact on the ice that covers our planet.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute for Technology have shown that the material strength and fracture toughness of ice are decreased significantly under increasing concentrations of CO2 molecules, making ice caps and glaciers more vulnerable to cracking and splitting into pieces, as was seen recently when a huge crack in the Pine Island Glacier in Antarctica spawned a glacier the size of Berlin.

Ice caps and glaciers cover seven per cent of the Earthmore than Europe and North America combinedand are responsible for reflecting 80? per cent of the Sun's light rays that enter our atmosphere and maintain the Earth's temperature. They are also a natural carbon sink, capturing a large amount of CO2.

"If ice caps and glaciers were to continue to crack and break into pieces, their surface area that is exposed to air would be significantly increased, which could lead to accelerated melting and much reduced coverage area on the Earth. The consequences of these changes remain to be explored by the experts, but they might contribute to changes of the global climate," said lead author of the study Professor Markus Buehler.

Buehler, along with his student and co-author of the paper, Zhao Qin, used a series of atomistic-level computer simulations to analyse the dynamics of molecules to investigate the role of CO2 molecules in ice fracturing, and found that CO2 exposure causes ice to break more easily.

Notably, the decreased ice strength is not merely caused by material defects induced by CO2 bubbles, but rather by the fact that the strength of hydrogen bondsthe chemical bonds between water molecules in an ice crystalis decreased under increasing concentrations of CO2. This is because the added CO2 competes with the water molecules connected in the ice crystal.

It was shown that CO2 molecules first adhere to the crack boundary of ice by forming a bond with the hydrogen atoms and then migrate through the ice in a flipping motion along the crack boundary towards the crack tip.

The CO2 molecules accumulate at the crack tip and constantly attack the water molecules by trying to bond to them. This leaves broken bonds behind and increases the brittleness of the ice on a macroscopic scale.

London film festival opens, Rolling Stones to star

LONDON (Reuters) - The London film festival opens on Wednesday with the European premiere of Tim Burton's stop-motion 3D animation drama "Frankenweenie", kicking off the 12-day cinema showcase where more than 220 movies and documentaries will be screened.

It closes on October 21 with another European premiere, Mike Newell's adaptation of the classic Dickens novel "Great Expectations" starring Ralph Fiennes as Abel Magwitch and Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham.

While not yet on a par with other festivals like Cannes and Toronto, which feature world premieres in their official selections, London allows people living in the capital to catch up with the latest arthouse movies from around the globe.

There will be stars on the red carpet too, most notably on October 18 when the Rolling Stones, one of rock'n'roll's biggest bands celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2012, appear to promote a new documentary "Crossfire Hurricane".

The movie, which is set to some of the group's most famous tracks, will focus mainly on the first 20 years, including the death in 1969 of founder member Brian Jones, musicians coming and going and memorable live performances.

The London film festival's new director Clare Stewart said several of the bigger titles would be screened at dozens of cinemas across Britain simultaneously with the premieres.

"Audiences around the UK will not only have the opportunity to see the film simultaneous to its premiere at Leicester Square ... but we'll also have the opportunity to see the red carpet action via live satellite," she told Reuters.

Asked whether she would like to see more world premieres at the festival, she replied that several British films would debut in London.

"World premieres are only important in one context and that's about international media and reach, and that's important. But that's by no means the only reason for a festival," she added.

Other big names appearing in London to promote their movies include Maggie Smith for Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut "Quartet", Ben Affleck for his spy thriller "Argo" and Helen Hunt for "The Sessions".

Among the movies Stewart has highlighted this year is "Wadjda", which first screened in Venice last month, made by Saudi Arabia's first female director Haifaa Al Mansour.

Mansour is one of 12 debut directors shortlisted for the Sutherland Award honoring first-time filmmakers, as the festival aims to boost the profile of its prizes.

The main competition, also 12-strong and to be decided by a jury led by playwright and screenwriter David Hare, includes "After Lucia" from Mexico, "Fill the Void" from Israel, "Ginger and Rosa" from Britain and "In the House" from France.

At this year's awards ceremony on October 20 at the grand Banqueting House in central London, Burton and Bonham Carter will both receive a BFI Fellowship, the highest honor given by the British Film Institute industry body.

PPR to unveil Fnac exit plans - source

PARIS (Reuters) - PPR will announce its plans for a possible stock market listing or spin-off of book, electronics and CD retailer Fnac following a presentation to staff on Tuesday, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The plan will then be put to shareholders for approval at next year's annual general meeting, the source said.

"PPR's board is due to meet tomorrow on the plan to split from Fnac before it's presented to the brand's workers," the source told Reuters. "The exit plan is not completely decided, it could consist of a spin-off or stock market listing."

PPR is exiting its retail businesses to focus on its luxury brands, including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, and sports lifestyle brands Puma and Volcom. It sold furniture retailer Conforama last year and said last week it would update investors on plans to sell its Redcats mail order unit before October 25.

Fnac, which has suffered as consumers turn to the Internet, saw recurring operating income drop 47 percent last year. Fnac swung to a loss of 7.5 million euros in the first half of this year while luxury profit rose 30 percent.

"Fnac has a good chance of attracting private equity or industrial bids," a Paris-based trader said, citing a price of around 550 million euros ($718 million). "On the other hand, an IPO of Fnac would not be an easy thing to organize in the current market mood."

The disposal of PPR's retail assets could boost the stock, depending on the price, as well as paving the way for luxury acquisitions, the trader added.

Still, PPR has struggled to get bids for Redcats at the valuation it wanted and bankers have long viewed Fnac as an even tougher sale.

"If you look at it in terms of electronics, they're definitely in trouble," said one Paris-based investment banker. "Bookshops aren't in the best shape either."

Shares in PPR were up 1.7 percent higher at 123.75 euros by 0733 GMT, the only gainers on a 1.4 percent weaker French CAC 40 index <.fchi> for a rise of close to 12 percent this year.

Analysts at CM-CIC Securities put a value of 775 million euros on Fnac, or 6.1 euros a share, saying a spin-off was a suitable option given "the difficulty of selling this asset".

The analysts raised their price target for the stock to 150 euros from 136 euros, adding it to their list of recommended stocks with a "buy" rating.

    PPR declined to comment.

Business Article Marketing: Does It Work for Larger Companies ...

Author: Steve Shaw | Total views: 44 Comments: 0
    Word Count: 799 Date:

For many years now article marketing has been the "go to" marketing tool for small business owners who want to market their websites. Increasingly though, I've noticed that interest is expanding to larger companies as well. I received this question recently from someone who works at a large corporation:

"Do you think that article marketing would work for a large company? I know it works well for small business owners and that it's great for establishing the expertise of an author, but as a large company we want to bring attention to the company and not any particular person in our organization. Also, I don't know if our traditional website would be very marketable. A lot of people these days have blogs and sites with lots of informational content, but our website is a static one that just has info about your company. Many thanks for your input on this!"

I'm so glad that someone asked this! There is no reason why submitting articles wouldn't work for a large company, and I know many SEO specialists who work with large companies and who use article marketing as part of an overall online marketing plan for the company.

I just want to be sure that you understand how article marketing works, and I think that will help you to understand why business article marketing is not restricted to just small businesses, but would actually work for any size of business.

Article marketing is great for establishing the expertise of an author, but that's not the main benefit by a long shot. The main reason that people engage in creating free reprint articles is to get a higher search engine ranking for their website. This is how article marketing helps improve a web page's ranking:

You submit articles on the general topic of your website. These would not be articles about your business or your website, but they would instead be articles that teach your readers things that they need to know about your general niche.

Along with every article you submit you will also create what is called a resource box. A resource box is where you tell a little more about your company, provide a link to your website, and give a reason to click the link to your website. You could list an author name in the resource box if you wanted, but it's not required. Many people who are marketing on behalf of a large company will just list the company name rather than a specific person.

In your resource box, you will have the opportunity to link words of your choosing to your website. The words that you would choose to link are called "keywords". Keywords are words of special significance for your website, words that are accurate in classifying what your website is about and what people are typing into Google to reach websites such as yours.

Through that link in your resource box where the keywords are linked to your website, you are sending very powerful information to Google and the other search engines about what your website is about. This helps Google and the other search engines to classify your website and rank it appropriately. With consistent marketing, ideally the pages on your website will show up high in the rankings when someone does a search for one of your keywords.

You can discover the best keywords for your website by using a keyword research tool--there are many of these available online. When you do keyword research, you will come up with a variety of different phrases associated with the topic of your website, and you will alternate using those phrases in your resource boxes each time you submit an article.

So, that is how article marketing helps business owners--it can help your website to get a higher ranking, and the higher the ranking the more people will be referred to your website. The more targeted visitors who are referred to your website, the more potential sales and business for you.

Article marketing works for all types of websites, whether they're the static traditional website or a blog. Even among small business owners, not everyone has a blog--many are marketing traditional websites.

I hope this helps explain how article marketing can work for people with businesses of all sizes. It's true that small business owners were the first to catch on to the power of article marketing, but now larger corporations are jumping on board too. The purpose of article marketing is to help drive targeted traffic to a website, and that's something that's desirable whether you're a solo business owner or have a huge organization.
