IHeart Organizing: Reader Space: Jill's Joyful Office Closet

Sometimes we get into funks and leave things the way they are, because that is the way they have been for so long already... and that it is all that makes sense to us.? And often times, we forget that we should always be rethinking how we are using our spaces.? For example, a closet that has been a "coat" closet for years... Who says that closet has to be for coats?? Why can't it be a pantry or a craft closet or a combination of all three? ?? We need to define what we want spaces to become, based on our needs and what works best for us.? Not because "that's the way it was built" and originally intended.

Hi Jen! ?I'm a HUGE fan of your blog {like, HUGE. ?I emailed you many months ago, just to thank you for all the inspiration and motivation}. ?I'm a little bit {uh, okay... a LOT bit} of an OCD organizer so coming to your blog is like coming home.?

Anyway.? One of my most favorite features you do is the Reader Spaces and seeing how others utilize their spaces is kinda fascinating for me. ?And last night, it hit me that maybe I could just ENTER to BE one of the Reader Spaces. ?

I mean, it's nothing mind-blowing {well, it is to ME but I'm continually blown away by the creativity out there!} but it's a space in our home that's totally done a 180 and changed the way we operate. ?We went from a cluttered closet that was my dark secret {haha} into a streamlined office-warehouse that I actually WANT to go in now! ?We tore out shelves, relocated clothing, hung wire shelving, and then purged and organized and organized some more {my favorite part}.

Let's take a peek at what Jill began with...
Because Jill was welcoming a little one, her office space was being taken over by a nursery.? So it was time to start thinking of a new solution.? The closet was the perfect answer and it has gone through an amazing transformation!

A new light, an electrical outlet and some updated shelving and she had a whole new room!

Oh yes indeed, that is the same space!

All of her scrapbook paper is sorted in the clear drawers:

The cart is from IKEA and she also picked up some sorters to use within the drawers so she could stash away some smaller craft items!

Some thrifting gave her inexpensive storage solutions as well!
She used photo cases to store all of her prints {that she will use to scrapbook one day}:

The green storage boxes {also from IKEA}, are great for storing her extra kit materials {for her shop} and sewing supplies.

She added some art and a rail of cups to hold more crafting/kit items:

Each component worked together to give her a successful before and after story!

She gained new functionality for a closet that wasn't working up to it's full potential.
She made lemonade out of lemons!? Loss of her personal space for her nursery meant a super snazzy new closet office space!
The closet didn't have a light or outlet, but she had them installed to boost the functionality!? Just because it didn't come that way, doesn't mean it can't be that way!
She used storage inside of storage.? The storage baskets for the cart wouldn't work for smaller craft supplies, but by adding simple divider trays, she has a fabulous crafty cart that holds all of her supplies perfectly!
She really maximized the space in the closet by adding shelving along two walls and going vertical.? She also used the remaining wall to add additional storage through the rail of cups.
Artwork in a closet is simply genius.? A closet can easily be considered another "room" in our home, why not jazz it up a bit?? So adorable!
Thrifted or every day items {such as bowls and mugs} are fantastic for corralling small office supplies like paperclips and pushpins!
Everything is labeled!? No standing there questioning the contents of each storage bin or box.? She will always know where to quickly grab from!

Mammography-detected breast cancer in 40-49 year-olds has better ...

?In our study, women aged 40 to 49 whose breast cancer was detected by mammography were easier to treat and had less recurring disease and mortality, because their cancer was found at an earlier stage,? said Judith A. Malmgren, Ph.D., president of HealthStat Consulting, Inc.

Dr. Malmgren and a team of researchers reviewed breast cancer patient data from a dedicated registry at the Swedish Cancer Institute?s community cancer center. The researchers analyzed data on 1,977 breast cancer patients between the ages of 40 and 49 who were treated between 1990 and 2008. The researchers looked at method of diagnosis (detected by mammography, patient or physician), stage at diagnosis (0-IV, confirmed by biopsy), treatment, and annual follow-up information, including recurrence of disease.

?Our goal was to assess the differences between mammography and non-mammography detected breast cancer, to determine whether earlier detection confers a treatment and morbidity advantage because the disease is found at an earlier stage,? Dr. Malmgren said.

The data analysis revealed a significant increase in the percentage of mammography-detected breast cancer over the 18-year period: from 28 percent in 1990 to 58 percent in 2008. Over the same period, patient- and physician-detected breast cancer declined from 73 percent of all cases in 1990 to 42 percent in 2008.

?The shift toward more mammography-detected breast cancer cases was accompanied by a shift toward diagnosis at an earlier stage of disease that required less treatment,? Dr. Malmgren said.

Over the 18-year period, the number of breast cancers diagnosed at Stage 0 increased by 66 percent, while the number of Stage III breast cancers decreased by 66 percent. The majority of Stage 0 cancer cases were ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a non-invasive cancer that is confined to a milk duct. The treatment of DCIS remains controversial, because not all experts agree that it is potentially life threatening.

Dr. Malmgren said another key finding of the study was the extent of treatment patients received. Compared with women whose cancer was self-detected or discovered by a physician, patients whose cancer was detected using mammography were more likely to have breast-conserving treatment and less likely to have chemotherapy. Specifically, they were more likely to undergo lumpectomy (67 percent versus 48 percent), less likely to undergo modified radical mastectomy (25 percent versus 47 percent), and less likely to die of breast cancer (4 percent versus 11 percent).

?The benefits of breast cancer treatment are accompanied by significant harms,? Dr. Malmgren said. ?Chemotherapy may have long-lasting toxic effects on a woman?s body, and mastectomy and reconstructive surgery are difficult and expensive operations that can have a significant effect on body image.?

The American Cancer Society and other medical organizations recommend that women should begin receiving annual mammograms to screen for breast cancer beginning at age 40. In 2009, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued controversial new guidelines that eliminated the longstanding recommendation for routine mammography screening for women between the ages of 40 and 49, stating that the benefits of screening were potentially outweighed by the harms of screening, such as false-positive results.

?The objective of screening is to detect disease at an earlier, more treatable stage, which?based on our review?mammography accomplishes,? Dr. Malmgren said.

I work a lot in this area, so it is near and dear to my heart. Despite the importance of procedural safeguards. however, many issues in this area are misunderstood. Independent Educational EvaluationsThe parents of a child with a disability have the right to an independent educational evaluation (hereafter sometimes referred to as ?IEE.?) IDEA Section 615(b)(1). The IEE must be provided by the school district at public expense unless the school district files a due process complaint and shows that its evaluation was appropriate. 34 CFR Section 300.502(b). The U. S. Supreme Court found the right to an IEE to be a very important safeguard for parents, and relied on it in part, in rejecting the argument that school districts had an advantage in terms of expertise and knowledge. Schaffer v. Weast 546 U.S.49, 126 S.Ct. 528, 44 IDELR 150 (2005).

Parents may obtain only one IEE at public expense each time the school district conducts an evaluation with which the parents disagree. 34 CFR Section 300.502(b)(5). The purpose of this regulation is to protect the parents? right to an IEE (OSEP rejected a suggestion limiting a parent to one IEE in a child?s school career) while ensuring that a school district does not have to bear the cost of multiple IEEs concerning a single disagreement. 71 Fed. Register No. 156 at page 46690 (August 14, 2006).

OSEP has noted that where a hearing officer orders an IEE, parental consent is needed for the release of education records to the independent evaluator. If the parent refuses to consent, the hearing officer could decide to dismiss the parent?s complaint. 71 Fed. Register No. 156 at page 46690 (August 14, 2006).

If a parent obtains an IEE at public expense, but disagrees with the result, the school district could introduce it as evidence in a due process hearing. 71 Fed. Register No. 156 at page 46690 (August 14, 2006).

Based on Sunday's studio estimates, Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds' "Safe House" had a slim lead with $24 million from Friday to Sunday. That put it a fraction ahead of Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum's "The Vow" with $23.6 million.

The winner won't be known for certain until Tuesday, when studios will report final numbers for the long holiday weekend. Final numbers often vary from weekend projections, which include estimates for the size of Sunday's audiences.

The top-five movies were bunched up tightly, with Nicolas Cage's sequel "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" opening a close No. 3 with $22 million.

Dwayne Johnson's family action tale "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" was No. 4 with $20.1 million. Reese Witherspoon's love-triangle comedy "This Means War" debuted at No. 5 with $17.6 million.

Starring Washington as a CIA traitor on the run, "Safe House" raised its domestic total to $78.2 million. Sony Screen Gems' "The Vow," which features McAdams as an amnesiac car-accident victim becoming reacquainted with her husband (Tatum), lifted its total to $85.5 million.

While "Safe House" and "The Vow" held up well, Sony's "Ghost Rider" follow-up came in below industry expectations, doing a bit less than half the $45 million the first one pulled in with its 2007 debut.

In "Spirit of Vengeance," Cage reprises his Marvel Comics role as Satan's bounty hunter, this time trying to save a child from the devil.

Released by Warner Bros., "Journey 2" is a modern take on Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island." It padded its total to $53.2 million.

In 20th Century Fox's "This Means War," Witherspoon plays a woman who captures the hearts of two CIA agents (Chris Pine and Tom Hardy), the spy guys going from best pals to rivals as they pursue her.

Disney's English-language version of the Japanese animated hit "The Secret World of Arrietty" opened in narrower release and came in at No. 9 with $6.4 million. Based on Mary Norton's children's novel "The Borrowers," about tiny people living beneath the floorboards of a house, the film features a voice cast that includes Carol Burnett, Amy Poehler and Will Arnett.

The weekend's overall domestic revenues totaled $160 million, up 10.7 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Unknown" led with a $21.9 million debut, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.

So far this year, revenues have soared to $1.42 billion, a 19 percent increase from 2011's receipts.

"Every weekend this year has been up vs. the comparable weekend a year ago, so Hollywood is definitely on a roll right now," said Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Tuesday.

Commercial property loans to surge in 2012: Report
U.S. commercial mortgage originations are projected to hit $230 billion this year, up 17 percent from last year, and will probably reach $290 billion by 2015, according to The Mortgage Bankers Association. Commercial mortgage debt outstanding is expected to grow this year too, to upwards of $2.4 trillion, 2 percent more than last year. By the end of 2015, mortgage debt outstanding will probably exceed $2.5 trillion, the trade group says.

Life insurance companies and government-sponsored entities will be the most active lenders, the group predicts, saying also that the CMBS market will recover steadily through this year. ?Our forecast anticipates continued strength in lending by life companies and the GSEs, increased lending by banks and others, and a slow but steady return in CMBS activity,? said Jamie Woodwell, the association?s vice president of commercial real estate research, in the report. ?Low loan maturity volumes over the next few years, coupled with moderate sales transaction activity, will mean that a relatively robust supply of mortgage capital will be a catalyst for deal activity.?

Unfortunately for retail borrowers, the trend seems to be driven by lending to multifamily and industrial properties. The association reports that in the fourth quarter of last year, when commercial mortgage originations grew 13 percent from the year-ago quarter, loans on the industrial side grew by 43 percent, and those in the multifamily sector increased by 31 percent. By comparison, on the retail side loan originations in the fourth quarter fell 8 percent year on year, while originations for health care properties dropped 24 percent, office properties decreased 29 percent and hotels sank 44 percent.

ASUS delays Ice Cream Sandwich for Transformer, aims for 'Feb / March 2012' release

Looks like that Google approval's taking a little longer than expected. ASUS just announced that the Android 4.0 update for its first Transformer tablet now likely to land between now and next month.
